NLH Search 2.0 is coming to Basildon Healthcare Library where Information Matters!
Instead of visiting separate websites –
Dialog, MyiLibrary, Proquest or Pubmed for NHS purchased databases - NLH Search will give access to all of these through a single interface which takes you to the journal content that you want, much of which will be available as full-text .
From Apri 1st 2008, The National Library for Health will not only be the single point of access for searching content bought nationally for the NHS, it will also be a point of access to journals purchased by your own local library service – available when you login with your local NHS Athens password. This will include the
following clinical databases:
· Medline
· Embase
· Cinahl fulltext
· British Nursing Index
· PycINFO
· AMED
· HMIC: Kings Fund & DH-Data
Also - for the first time - Pubmed will also be
available through NLH Search, so you can access many bibliographic details without logging in.
We have worked with Ovid and Ebsco as new database providers (replacing Dialog), to make their powerful range of search tools available through one interface on the National Library for Health website. This will enable you to move seamlessly from a simple Google-style search to a search using MESH thesaurus terms and appropriate limiters to refine your search and find the exact items you need.
In addition, links to full text holdings will be available from within the search interface, so if you find a reference to a journal article that has been
purchased by the NHS (either by the National Collection,
regional consortia or your local Trust) then a link to the full text will be displayed next to that reference.
You will also be able to search and browse
nationally and locally bought e-books via NLH,
further eliminating the need to access separate websites for these.

Journals purchased nationally include the BMJ Journals, JAMA and the Archives, and 600 nursing, management and allied health titles. All these features and more are backed and supported by your local NHS library service, which will provide detailed guides or hands-on training tailored to suit your needs.
